Reapers

A group of supernatural hunters, The Reapers are an ancient order of warriors that seeks to control the supernatural threat and keep the secret from humanity. History states that the Black Death was a bubonic plague pandemic that wiped out almost a third of Europe's population in the mid-1300s.

In truth, the plague was a vampire uprising that swept over Europe, caused by an insane vampire queen named Camille. Using the plague as a guise, Camilla grew her army to an incredible size and decimated Europe until they came across the Livingstone family.

A large family of Magi and human hunters, the Livingstones were the first to take up arms against Camilla and her vampire army. As powerful Magi and warriors, they used their influence to call to arms any able-bodied man or woman who could fight and quell the threat. Once the battle was won, the Livingstones offered their alliance to those who would join them to defeat Lilith and destroy the vampires. They have been the leaders of the Reapers ever since.

Reapers have become prolific vampire hunters, but they also hunt all supernaturals that risk exposure. In modern times, they are a secret military branch of the global governments known as the 'Reaper Project'. They work as a task force to monitor and control the supernatural population through modern weaponry, expert military tactics, and magic, as many are still born with magical abilities.

Reaper Elders

The Council of Elders comprises many families, clans, and tribes that date back to the creation of the Reaper Order. There is a representative for the ‘Foundlings’; Reapers who were not born into the organization but inducted voluntarily, and together this ruling body coordinates efforts with both the supernatural and human communities as a ‘bridge between worlds’. Reaper Elders are not elected (unless you are the Foundling representative); it is the head of each family or clan that speaks on the Council. The Council is predominantly made up of female members, Matriarchs of the different clans that joined the Reaper Order long ago. However, male leaders of a family are not excluded from becoming Elders. Families elect their members to represent their clan on the Council and any conflicts between families are left to the Council as a whole to rule on outcomes that benefit The Order. All factions, clans, and militaries under the Reaper Order report to the Council, ensuring that peaceful coexistence is maintained between all groups, where one cannot have power over another. The Reaper Elders have successfully led the Reapers for hundreds of years, with only two uprisings against the Council ever recorded.

Original Families

The Original families govern the Reaper order and work together to control the supernatural community. Formed over 800 years ago, the alliance of these families, tribes, clans, and coalitions is very strong. Despite some occasional disagreements, all believe in the mandate and founding principles the Reaper Order is built on and will uphold the values of being a Reaper above all else.“We hunt those who hunt others.” Each Original family plays an important role in the governance of the Reaper Order all over the world but all answer to the Livingstone Family.

ACHARYA

A family of farmers, the Acharya were once agriculturalists in India's northern regions when they were attacked by a vicious group of Yakshini; Serpent demons very similar to vampires that can be summoned by dark practitioners of magic.

A Dark Druid, also known as an 'Olc Darach' (Evil Oak) had come to plague their villages and practice their dark arts away from other Druids that could reprimand him. The Acharya family struggled to protect their people, especially their young women, from the monsters that would attack them every night. The actions of the Olc Darach were noticed by the Livingstone Family who sent warriors and Magi Druids to kill him and after a protracted battle, they were victorious.

The Livingstones remained to help the Acharya rebuild and taught them some magic to help them cultivate their land and become wealthy farmers in their region. They had a friendship between the two families for many years, and after the war with Camilla, the Livingstones invited the Acharya to join their alliance. They agreed and have been members of the order ever since.

Position in the Order: The Acharya were the first 'Care Takers' in a Reaper Base that helped to create the food and herbal medicine used by Reaper members in their battles against the Supernatural. The pioneers of the program, it was the Acharya that implemented the rule that anyone could join their ranks and support a Reaper Base. They are often a neutral party in conflicts and choose neutrality in the Council.

Their current Council representative is Kahtani Acharya.

JAEGER

The Jaeger family was a family of hunters from Eastern Europe in the early 1200s and were renowned for their expertise in survival against growing supernatural threats in their region. A relatively small family (only in comparison to clans like the Harwoods and Thorgards), the Jaeger family was approached by the Reaper Scouts in the 1400s after the war with Camilla to join their alliance and strengthen the Reaper Military with their unapparelled skills in hunting and survivalism. It would take much negotiation but eventually, the Jaegers would send emissaries to the Reaper Order to help teach their soldiers. They wouldn't accept a formal alliance for nearly 20 years as they did not wish to cede authority to the Livingstones, but eventually, they would come to be full members of the Order, absorbed into the Military as the first group to be known as Hunters.

Position in the Order: As the progenitors of the Hunter's class of military soldiers, the Jaegers make up many of the combat and survivalism instructors in the Reaper Academy and the Military. They are often known for taking young Reapers out into the wilderness to teach them how to survive in harsh environs, while also teaching them tracking, foraging, and woodcraft. Some of the Jaegers are also prized smiths as the family continues to practice the tradition of creating their weapons as part of their maturing into adulthood, and many among the Reapers pay dearly for a weapon crafted by the Jaeger family. The Jaeger family isn't known for its interest in the politics of a Reaper Cell, however; rather opting to be out on missions or training new Reapers.

Their current Council representative is Alexander Jaeger.

ECCLESHAL

Known as the Celtic Christians, the Eccleshalls are the descendants of the Druids and Celtic tribes that were wiped out by the Romans. Choosing to lie low and blend in, the Eccleshalls are a group containing many Celtic tribes that joined as one to survive The Great War. The first to join the Livingstones and their cause, they have powerful earth magic abilities and are skilled hunters.

Position in the Order: The Eccleshalls were the first to join the Livingstone family in their offer of alliance, bringing the Harwood and MacCrimmon Clans with them as they all descend from the same Germanic Tribal Ancestry. This Triad of families is known as the Eccleshall Coalition among the Reapers as these three families will often support each other and their agendas in the Council. The Eccleshalls hold a powerful position in the Council and are considered the Defacto leaders when the Livingstones are not around.

Their current Council representative is Darius Eccleshall.

HARWOOD

Clan-Kin to the Eccleshalls and MacCrimmons, the Harwoods are a highly militarized group among the Reapers with a long line of commanders and generals that have served in the Reaper Militia and Intelligence Forces. As a family not known for its magical abilities, they more than make up for this in numbers and warriors, being the largest clan in the Reaper Order. When the call came to join the Livingstones in their fight against Camilla, the Harwoods answered the call and were instrumental in learning the weaknesses that came with vampirism. Their Clan Chief at the time discovered that fire, decapitation, and a stake to the heart would get the job done. His name, Adrius Harwood, is still venerated today and honored among Reapers in the Academy. He joined the MacCrimmon and Eccleshall Clans in sealing an alliance with the Livingstones and would go on to form its earliest militia, crafting the strict tenants it lives by today.

Position in the Order: The Harwoods make up almost a third of the Reaper Militia and have many prominent members in positions of leadership in both the infantry and intelligence ranks. They are the commanders of the Reaper Forces and handle much of the internal security and military, along with their Clan-Kin MacCrimmon and Eccleshalls.

Their current Council representative is Eliza Harwood.

MACCRIMMON

Clan-Kin to the Eccleshall's and Harwood's, the MacCrimmon Clan was a renowned Scottish Clan that disappeared from the history books once they joined the Reaper Order in the 1300's. A relatively large clan of Scottish warriors and craftsmen, the MacCrimmon Clan were renowned smiths and armorers who would supply their Clan-Kin in times of war and would become vital to the Livingstones' efforts in creating weapons for their growing army. As the war ended, the MacCrimmons left the Eccleshalls to the politics and the Harwoods to form the foundation of the Reaper Army, so they could begin their long and tireless work forging armor and weapons for generations of Reapers to come. Using old alliances, the MacCrimmons were even able to learn the secrets of Dwarven Smithing so they could create Runed Armor and weapons that would give Reapers an edge over their supernatural opponents. How they convinced the Dwarves to part with this secret is unknown, but it is one they keep generations later and is known only to a few.

Position in the Order: Due to their affinity with creating weapons and armor, the MacCrimmons oversee the Reaper's Armories and Sparring Lounges, passing on their knowledge of weaponry and warcraft to students seeking military carriers in the Order. Carrying on the tradition used in the Jaeger family, a MacCrimmon will typically help a young Reaper to specialize in a weapon or weapons of their choice, gifting them their very own set of weapons specially designed for them when they graduate the Academy, as well as a suite of armor made to their specifications. Receiving your weapons and armor from a MacCrimmon is a true sign you have completed your training, and many respect the MacCrimmon family for their dedication to their craft and the Order itself.

Modern Reaper armor has many variations and is designed with the different classes of Reapers in mind. All armors come with magnetic anchors for weapons and inertial dampeners that allow the armor to take more hits without damaging the wearer.

The current Council representative is Brigit MacCrimmon.

BOSWELL

The Boswells were another family to be impacted by the increased numbers of vampires that were plaguing Europe in the 1300s. Using ancient magics and curses, they were able to hold their ground against the vampire horde until they encountered the Livingstones and their allies fighting the horde. Unlike other groups that were incorporated into the Reaper Order, the Boswells sought an alliance with the Livingstones, offering their expertise in teaching some of their magic users the psychic and herbalist arts that would come to be commonly used by Water Magi (Agua) today. Seeing the potential of the Boswells, the Livingstones extended the offer to join them, much to the confusion of some of the other clans that could offer warriors to the cause, and the Boswells would begin the foundation that would become the Academy of Reapers.

Position in the Order: The Boswells are the heart of the Academy of Reapers, having created the foundation for the curriculum that is practiced all over the world. Many seeking educations in human institutions, the Boswells will then bring that knowledge back to the base and become teachers, instructors, and professors that will shape the next generation of Reaper Warriors. Magic runs throughout their family bloodline, so they were also instrumental in creating the Magi Classes that would help to teach young Magi to control their powers and harness them to heal or to kill. They take their charge very seriously, often representing their thoughts on education in the Council. Most of the Boswell family will stay within a Cell and help to manage The Academy on behalf of the Council.

Their current Council representative is Haniel Boswell.

THORGARD

The Thorgard is a banner term for a large group of Scandinavian and Baltic Clans that joined the Reapers during the time of the first vampire uprising. Hailing from many northern European regions, the Thorgard are the Norse Pagans of the Order, still holding a deep connection to their ancient ways and spiritual practices. As a group, they are predominantly warriors that help to fill the Reaper Militaries ranks but they are also known for their unique Ice Magi; a specialization of water Magi in the Reaper Academy, and Lightening Magi. During the war, the Thorgard were fighting their own vampire incursion when they got the call from the Livingstones to join them. The Thorgards only had one condition: 'Kill our enemy and we will kill yours'. The Livingstones sent Magi Warriors and some of the Harwood Clan to support the Thorgard and when they were victorious, they immediately joined the fight and helped to drive the vampire forces back.

Holding a close kinship with the Livingstones, the Thorgards are strong supporters of the Livingstone family and their agendas on the Reaper Council.

Position in the Order: The Thorgards do not show much interest in the politics of running a Cell, choosing to throw support behind the Livingstone family and their agendas on the Council. As a result, the Thorgard are often seen in military positions, especially those that require a Vanguard to break enemy lines. As predominantly frontline combatants, the Thorgard are often seen training and utilizing heavy weaponry such as hammers, great swords, and battle axes to cut through droves of enemies and pay homage to their ancestry and Gods. As the first Vanguard warriors in the Reaper Military, they often host funerals or wakes before departing on serious missions so they can celebrate their death with their loved ones.

Their current Council representative is Katarina Strand-Thorgard

CLOVIS

Based solely in the Americas, the Clovis Pact incorporates dozens of Tribes and makes up their own collective Council based in Northern America. When the Reaper Order was expanding its influence all over the world, they instantly ran into some tribal societies that did not appreciate such a militarized foreign group on their soil.

Through negotiation and fair trade, the Reapers and Clovis Pact Tribes would reach an accord; the Reapers would welcome a representative on their Council so the Pact could influence decisions made on their continent, and the Clovis Pact would answer the call to war if the Reapers were ever under threat. This peace has existed for nearly 400 years, with periods of tension and unrest rising from time to time, but the accord is still strong to this day.

Position in the Order: The Clovis Pact has its own secret Council of Tribe Leaders that hold their meetings outside of the Reapers. As part of the accord, any tribe or individual among the Native Americans can join the Reapers, but there are very few in their ranks. The representative for the pact is chosen from among the Tribe Leaders/ Clan Chiefs and they will regularly visit the Ohio Cell to maintain contact.

The current Council representative is Takoda Begay; Clan Chief of the Navajo Tribe.

FOUNDLINGS

Occupying a unique space in the Reaper ranks, The Foundlings is a group of humans and occasional magic users who are not members of the Original Families.

Many were exposed to the Supernatural community and as a result, wished to join the Reapers in their fight. This has led to a variety of complications for the Reapers, as many Foundlings do not share the same views as the Council, creating their faction within the Reaper ranks. A common view shared among Foundlings and even some Reapers is that a more decisive approach should be taken with the Supernatural community, going so far as to hunt and wipe out certain species that are considered a threat.

This harsh viewpoint often puts the Foundlings in conflict with the Reaper Council. However, with numbers dwindling all over the world, the Reapers have begun to rely on Foundlings to boost numbers in their infantry.

Among the Foundlings, the Council has agreed that one can be nominated as a representative on the Council so that they may have a voice in shaping the future of the Reapers. However, many Foundlings wish to have a more active role in changing policy and military tactics, which the Council will not allow.

Foundlings of any age must submit to three years of infantry training, along with standard classes on Reaper history and magical studies if they show aptitude, where they will then become Reaper members and can then go on to specialize. The only branch they are forbidden to join is the intelligence branch, which has caused conflict among the factions.

The current Council representative is Aeducan Williams.

Reaper Bases

Using the Ohio Reaper Base as an example, Reaper bases lie under a fully functioning farmstead that supplies the underground society and trades in the local community.

Farm

The farm is maintained by Reapers and military personnel in civilian gear. Many buildings house farming equipment, processing, livestock, and vehicles as well as a large estate for business with the outside world. The entry to the underground complex lies in the vehicle's depot which houses communal cars you would expect to see on a farm and driven in rural communities. The entry to the underground complex is a door that requires a code to get in (this code changes regularly). The outer door is wooden, while the inner door is revealed to be steel. Once opened, a stairway leads down two stories to a tunnel.

Tunnel

When you enter the underground entryway, it opens into a long tunnel (walk about 2 minutes) that has a rail line that can hold large crates of goods to be transported inside and outside of the base. The Tunnel is well-lit and lined with cameras, rigged to blow at the push of a button. When you come to the end of the tunnel, you must wait for it to be opened from the other side. Once opened, this leads to The Docks.

Docks

One of the largest areas of the complex, the docks is a large open area, metal structure that bustles with activity. This is where supplies come to be sorted and sent to the relevant areas and it houses a large barracks and security office.

Processing (Right of Entry): Where supplies go to be sorted and sent to different areas of the complex.

Barracks (Left of Entry): Houses an armory, gymnasium, mess hall, and sleeping quarters for warriors on duty. They are pulled on rotating shifts one week on, one week off, and live with their families or in private quarters in the commons (another area of the base).

Security Office (Straight Ahead): Once you’ve crossed the large room, you come to the security office. This is where they monitor all activity above and below ground, and you must come through here to access the rest of the complex.

Commons

The largest area of the base spans two levels divided into Upper and Lower commons.

Upper Commons: Second Barracks and the Reaper Academy, which spans both levels and is the training ground for Reapers. There is also a medical clinic, armory, sparring areas, and two side entries to the lower levels.

Lower Commons: Mess Hall, Living Quarters (apartments), Theatre, and a Library with Rec area. The next level is level 3, with the only access to level 3 by security clearance and taking an elevator in the Barracks.

Level 3

The primary security hub and intelligence offices with labs and the Council Hall.

A specialized branch of the military, the intelligence network is responsible for communicating assignments to Reaper forces, identifying targets, conducting threat assessments, and reporting to the council on current and future Reaper missions. They are comprised of the leaders of the military, Council members, and spymasters who coordinate groups of hunters and informants in the human and supernatural community. Always confined to a Reaper Base, intelligence operatives are forbidden to leave any base they are assigned to, unless given permission by the Council and will often have their memories wiped when they have concluded a period in the intelligence branch. To become a spymaster is a lengthy affair, often reserved only for the most loyal among the Original Families. The only group that is not allowed to become a member of the intelligence and spymaster network is the Foundlings.

It is restricted.

Magi

The Magi are a branch of the Reaper military that specializes in magical practices, often passed down through the bloodlines of the original families. As many of the clans who joined the Reaper Order are of magical bloodlines, many Reapers have at least a small affinity for the kinds of elemental magics practiced among the Magi Classes, the most common being fire, water, earth, and air users. When a Reaper reaches puberty, magical ability tends to manifest, revealing what path and training regimen the Reaper must undertake to perfect and control their powers. As they grow, the Magi are sorted into their classes, training at an academy alongside fellow magic users in both magical studies, Reaper history, and Warcraft. Often, two Magi students from different magical classes will be paired together to hone their unique skills into one powerful attack. Suppose a young Magi finds they lack the magical ability to maintain a strong magical connection during training. In that case, they may opt to transfer straight into the military branch of the Reaper Order and train as a soldier instead.

As they mature, Reaper Magi can specialize in different fields, all of which will be incorporated into the Reaper military structure, as a branch of the military. Through their training, a Magi is ranked based on their magical ability. The rankings are a simple 1 to 8; with 1-3's showing low magical aptitude and will often be absorbed into the military. 4-6 are the most common and make up the bulk of the Magi order, and finally, the 7-8, are highly proficient and powerful magical users. Some in the 7-8 category may even have abilities in more than one field of magic, however this is very rare.

7-8: 3-5% of Magi Initiates

As the Magi grow into their powers, they are ranked by their instructors, dependent on their strength in harnessing magic, and this will have an impact on what they can specialize in.

There are other, rarer abilities among the Reapers such as harnessing lightning, creating portals and even controlling the weather.

However, many of these young Reapers will undergo the same training as their counterparts until they reach maturity and specialize.

Igni

Fire Magi – Often called: The Pyromancers

Most fire users are instantly trained for battlemage classes for their natural gifts of destruction magic. They can use fire as a means to thin large numbers of enemies quickly and to provide support to frontline combatants and are often combined with air users to provide Vanguard support in a battle.

More powerful fire users can draw magma from beneath the earth or even erupt volcanoes.

Aqua

Water Magi – Often called: The Alchemists

Water users often specialize in the healing arts as they have a natural affinity for communicating with the cells within the human body.

They can infuse water with magical properties to create potions of healing while also having an advanced knowledge of herbalism allows them to create tonics, magical amplifiers, and even magical grenades by combining their magical talents with those of another class.

Often working with earth users to create healing remedies and can even manipulate the memories of another through magic.

They are often used when human populations are at risk of discovering a supernatural threat as they can wipe memories and rapidly heal injuries.

Earth Shaker

Earth Magi

The most complex of the classes, the earth users are vast in their ability and application of magic.

Some have an affinity for nature, becoming herbalists, botanists, and agriculturalists who see to the farms and medicinal herb stocks supplied to the water Magi and Reaper community as a whole.

Others have a powerful affinity for stone, earth, and any element found in nature, becoming blacksmiths, weapons masters, demolition experts, and builders who see to the fortification of the Reaper bases located all over the world.

The earth Magi are often separated into two groups; The Earth Shakers and The Caretakers, dependent on their magical ability.

The Earth Shakers can shake the ground by shifting the earth beneath, move stone and earth to create new paths, and shape stone and metal into any form they wish to create such as weapons, objects, and even buildings.

The more powerful among them can cause earthquakes and level buildings by simply touching the ground with their hands.
Some can hurl stones like air projectiles at enemies, while others can create weapons never seen before.

Caretaker

Earth Magi

Caretakers occupy a unique space in the Reaper structure, as they are not only made up of earth users, but any individual from any faction, clan, or magical talent can join.

They ensure the day-to-day running of all Reaper cells, from food, irrigation, cooking, childcare, rubbish removal, and more and their number can comprise anyone in the Reaper Order.

The Leaders of the Caretakers are always members of the Acharya family; however, anyone can join the group at any time.

With a natural affinity for plants and nature, the Caretakers will often lead agricultural and food projects within Reaper bases, making them vital to the function of any base they are on. Many will circulate between the different bases all over the world, especially if one is short on Caretakers.

Through touch, they can test soil samples for nutrients, promote a weakened plant to strengthen and grow, and instinctively know what a harvest needs to grow strong.
They also care for the medicinal herbs that are provided to water users, so they work closely with the Aqua to perfect their crops for medicine.

A unique aspect of being a Caretaker is that you do not have to be an Earth user to become one. If a magic user with low magical talent, or a soldier in training wishes to pursue a different path, they can approach the Caretakers and petition to become a member of the group.

Some look down on those who do not pursue a military career in the Reaper ranks, but the Caretakers welcome all into their ranks. Other than the military and Magi, the Caretakers are the third largest group in the Reaper Order.

Ventus

Air Magi – Often called: Shield's

Often used as defensive combatants, air users are adept at creating gusts of wind to blind and disorient their enemies while also honing their air magic into a shield wall that can deflect objects and even other magical attacks.

There are other, more rare abilities among the Reapers such as harnessing lightning, creating portals and even controlling the weather.

Rift Mage

A very rare magical talent among air magi, the Rift Mages can create portals to other places and dimensions, seemingly out of ‘thin air’. They also can create runic circles that allow others to have their portals to be used at any time and without a rift mage's assistance. They are rarely combatants, though some show offensive magical ability, most will be kept behind to guard an open rift/ portal for other Reapers in combat situations.

Rift mages make up approximately 2-3% of all magical users at any time and are highly prized for their abilities. Most work directly for the Council, while others are assigned to certain military units like the Vanguard and healers to facilitate transport through rifts.

Battlemage

The most common among Magi specializations, Battlemages are trained to use their magic for offensive and defensive military tactics.

They often rank in the 4-6 percentile; however, the more powerful categories can be used as Vanguards and ‘heavy infantry’, especially if they are adept at the fire and ‘Earth Shaker’ earth magics.

Among battlemages, you will also find the smiths that forge magical weapons for the entire Reaper and Magi militaries and this class specialization works the closest with the Reaper infantry forces.

Blood Mages

There is a very rare group of Magi called Blood Mages, but they are rare because most don't live to 18, having succumbed to the call of their magical blood.

Very little is known about Blood Mages as they are immediately taken by the Reaper Council for specialized training and so few exist in any Reaper Cell around the world. Their deaths, however, are often tragic and gruesome; suicides that can have collateral damage if the Blood Mage is not contained when their power explodes.

Reaper Military

If born to the Reaper Order, one will begin training at 7 years of age. Many will undergo standard schooling as well as fitness and Reaper history classes, and when they turn 15, they begin combat and military strategy classes. All Reapers will complete their standard schooling at 18 and then can choose to go into military specialization classes or become active members of their society in different ways. Some will complete their schooling and go to human universities, while others will become part of the Caretakers, looking to the safety, comfort, and security of the compound or cell in which they reside. But most will pursue a military career, moving into a specialized school once they turn 18. Foundling members of The Order, are assessed upon acceptance into the Reaper ranks for their age, aptitude, and history before allocation into classes and training.

Infantry

The bulk of the Reaper forces is comprised of its infantry, as it is the base class for all Reapers in training. Every Magi, Human, and Foundling undergoes three years of infantry training before they are allowed to specialize in any other area as a requirement for being a Reaper. Those who choose to remain in the infantry are in the best position to become leaders and generals, as there are clear lines of progression when one takes up the infantry career. There are many subcategories of the infantry such as engineers, artillery, medics, communications, and The Guard.

The Guard

A branch of the infantry, their responsibility is the safety of the Reaper cell in which they reside, as well as performing regular threat assessments and monitoring of the local communities within the Reaper order. Operating much like the police, The Guard are the lawmakers, judiciaries, and peacekeepers for the factions and clans within a Reaper cell. If there is a dispute or someone has broken the law, The Guard is called in to sort matters out, escalating to the council if needed.

Hunter

Comprised of both human and Magi numbers, hunters are a specialized group of infantry warriors that track
and hunt members of the supernatural community. They are often sent out into the world to monitor supernatural populations, address conflicts between groups, and have the task of ensuring the secret of the supernatural and Reaper worlds is kept.

Whatever the cost.

To the supernatural community, Reaper hunters are the class of Reapers they have the most interaction with, which has led to much animosity and even hatred towards Reapers as a whole. Hunters also have the most oversight over the other classes as they are the front-facing force of the Reaper Military and by extension, the Reaper Council, representing their interests to the Supernatural community. They are also the highest injury and fatality group among Reapers (other than Vanguards) which means their numbers are not high, but they are often some of the best soldiers in the entire Reaper military. One of their main roles is to also monitor and gather intelligence to report to their superiors.

Vanguard

Led by the Thorgard Clan, the Vanguard is a highly specialized group of warriors that encompass volunteers from the Reaper Military who give their lives to be the first and last line of defense for the Reaper Forces. Membership to this group is voluntary only, with rigorous testing conducted to ensure the volunteer is ready and able to give their life for the Reaper cause. Sometimes seen as a fanatical group in the Reaper ranks, due to the Thorgard's unquestioning loyalty to the Livingstone Family, the Vanguard will often split their forces, so some are out in the field while others remain on base, bolstering The Guard in case of incursion. If a base comes under attack, The Vanguard are honor-bound to ensure all others escape before destroying the bases with them in it. Due to their high fatality rate, the Vanguard will often host a funeral celebration or wake so the members can celebrate their lives with their loved ones before being sent to death.
