Primordials
During the Great War, the angelic army had more than Gods and mankind on their hands; they also had the great and ancient beasts of the earth to contend with.
While seeking to wipe out the Old Gods and their followers, many angels encountered powerful creatures that they would come to call Primordials: creatures, demigods, and beasts unique and native to the Earth dimension.
It was Devil who would devise a way to kill or capture these creatures so they could be contained in The Hissing Wastes; a never-ending desert that surrounds The Hell's Rings.
But not all would go quietly into exile.

Phoenix
The great flaming bird that represents life and death, the Phoenix, also known as Bennu, is a powerful creature of legend that is often seen helping heroes to achieve their goals and gifting their feathers to those who are worthy so they can create powerful spells and weapons.
At the time of The Great War, the Phoenixes were nearly extinct, so it is unknown how many were captured and taken to Hell or if some managed to survive in isolation on earth. What we do know is that no one has claimed to have seen one since the time of The Great War.

Griffon
The Griffons were a proud and powerful race of beasts that had the intelligence of eagles and were massive in size.
A hybrid of a lion and eagle, the Griffons were seen as allies to humanity and the Gods, often used as powerful mounts like horses or Pegasus which heroes could ride or even fly into battle.
Due to their long-standing alliance with different tribes of mankind, the Griffons were hunted and captured, taken to The Hissing Wastes for all time.

Titans
The fathers and mothers of the Olympian Gods, the Titans were a powerful race of Elemental Gods that were made from the Earth itself. As the native Gods to the Earth dimension, Devil and Yahweh had a monumental task trying to subdue them and discovered they didn't have to intervene. Old grudges against their children would lead to the downfall of both the Olympians and Titans, with Devil offering aid to the Titans who were vastly outnumbered by their children. The war was quick and devastating, with the Olympians emerging victorious but diminished, which allowed Yahweh and Devil to imprison the survivors in Purgatory.

Sirens
Half female-half bird creatures, Sirens are prolific for their many interactions with mankind, often known for leading men at sea to their doom.
At the time of The Great War, the Sirens were seen as a threat as they held the power of flight (like the angels) and could seduce any man who encountered them, even angels. It was Dagon, an Archangel at the time who would come and kill hundreds of Sirens, deeming them too dangerous to be cast out into the Hissing Wastes.
To this day we still hear scattered stories of Siren encounters, but most are dismissed as hearsay, and as far as we know, none inhabit the Hissing Wastes in Hell.

Minataurs
Massive half-human-half-bull creatures, Minotaur's are powerful and legendary creatures that were known for guarding ancient temples and even the Maze in Hell for Hades. Unlike the other Primordials in this list, most of the Minotaur's were already in hell during the time of The Great War and were immediately confined to The Maze in the newly reformed Hell Ring, Betrayals.
They would be used as savage combatants to test angels and punish the damned souls that are forced to compete in a gladiatorum that takes place 24/7 in The Maze.

Dragons
Some of the most majestic and powerful creatures in all creation, the legend of the Dragons changes from culture to culture; from beneficent guides to calamitous villains. And yet, every ancient culture describes a winged, fire-breathing lizard of immense size and power in their mythology, giving rise to the belief that they were simply not just creatures of legend, but existed in real life long ago.
In truth, most Dragons died out long ago due to many causes such as lack of resources to feed the population (often leading to war amongst dragons), infertility, and hunters seeking glory so by the time the Great War began, there were hardly any left to fight. Their eggs were also highly prized for alchemical preparations and magic, and with a female dragon only able to hatch 2-3 babies in their lifetime, this had a catastrophic impact on population growth too.
Whatever dragons existed at the time of The Great War did not take part in the war itself. And if any survived, they would be imprisoned in the Hissing Wastes, but no one knows for sure, only that a dragon hasn't been seen in thousands of years.

Mermaids
Reports of Mermaid's behaviors and patterns differ between many different cultures, but what we do know is that they are half human-half fish creatures that inhabit our oceans.
Some believe them to be the daughters of Poseidon, while others see them as a race all on their own. Whatever you believe, there was once a time when entire colonies of Mermaids lived in our oceans, hunted fish, and saved sailors from drowning (or pulled them into the depths... depending on which stories you read).
What happened after the events of the Great War would profoundly change these creatures forever, turning them into the human-eating monsters we know in mythology today.
During the Great War, the Mermaids chose to hide from humanity, staying deep within their oceans and not interfering in the war.
But the angels would soon hear of beautiful females hidden in the seas who were fiercely protected by their males.
After he falls into hell and takes control of the Ring of Lust, Moloch takes an interest in Mermaids after hearing of their beauty and grace, this would lead him to hunt down their colonies and harness his power over desire to drive them mad.
The male Mermaids hunted and raped the females, the females fought back, and as a result, much of their population was decimated in a civil war waged between the genders.
The female Mermaids were desperate to get away from the males who had suddenly become rabid and to protect their children.
That is when Moloch came.
He offered to teleport them to an ocean deep below the ground where they would be safe and with no other option they agreed.
This allowed him to trap all the surviving females of the species in Hell, leaving the males to go mad and kill each other as well as the children who had been left behind. He had tricked them and left their men and children behind to die while he enslaved the female Mermaids for himself.
After centuries in Hell and under the 'care' of Moloch, Mermaids are all but extinct on earth, the only known Mermaids now reside in the Ring of Lust.
Now called The Col, they are tasked with the torment of the damned souls who enter Moloch's domain, dragging some into the depths to be mated with and eaten, while entering the minds of other victims and tormenting them with desires unfulfilled.
But above all, they serve Moloch, and while their daughters are trained to be Col like their mothers, the sons are given over to Moloch and never seen again.

Pegasus
The ally of Perseus and greatest emissary of the Olympian Gods, the Pegasus were a proud and beautiful race of horses that could take to the skies and carry warriors into battle. But only those who had proven themselves noble of heart and worthy of their loyalty could fly a Pegasus. They were never high in numbers, but Pegasus were prominent and peaceful Primordials at the time of The Great War.
When the Titans and Olympians waged a war instigated by the Celestial brothers, the Pegasus aided the Olympians to fight their ancient enemy and emerge victorious, despite the great cost to the Olympians themselves. Before they could recover from their war, the Celestial brothers Yahweh and Devil attacked and subdued them all; God, Demigod, and Pegasus in one fell swoop, killing the Demigods and imprisoning the Olympians in Purgatory.
Intrigued by the Pegasus, some of the angels attempted to mount the beasts and command them themselves, but the Pegasus refused. Their loyalty was to the Olympians the Celestials had killed and they refused to serve them.
They were cast into the Hissing Wastes, forever searching for their masters in the vast desert that housed the Old God's Prison: The Well of Sorrows.

Otto
Otto is not a species of Primordials like many others on this list, but the name of a very unique creature that once served the Norse and their human followers on Earth. As an enormous Bison, he was considered the father of all Bison, and an ancient nature spirit that coexisted with humans long ago. Though he posed no real threat to the Celestial brothers, they still sought to capture him and imprison him in the Hissing Wastes.
Only when they tried to find him, they couldn't.
Somehow the great lumbering beast had disappeared into the Glaciers and tundra of Northern Europe, never to be seen again.
Where he is and how he disappeared is unknown. But there are still rumors to this day that Otto can be found helping those lost in snowstorms and that the natives of the region still leave crop offerings in sacred locations to offer their thanks for his protection.

Chymera
The Chymera is a ferocious beast of legend known for its battles with Demigods and for plaguing the Mediterranean for generations. With two heads of a lion and a goat (or eagle) and the tail of a snake, these mythical beasts were known for breathing fire and for being nearly unkillable, which was a no-brainer when it came to the Celestial brothers imprisoning all the Chymera in the Hissing Wastes.
Unlike the other Primordials in this list, Chymera were not inconspicuous creatures and were very easy to find.
And no one, Old God or Celestial, protested their imprisonment in Hell.

Wisp
Ancient and mysterious spirits of nature, wisps come in many different forms and served many different purposes long ago to ancient humans, the most commonly known being the Will-o-the-Wisp.
They are often described as glowing balls of light and energy that can be found anywhere in nature; such as swamps, forests, and rivers. Some believe they are the disembodied spirits of the deceased, while others believe they are pure spirits that embody nature.
All agree that they can be tricksters that often lead humans astray or guides that can help you find your way home when you are lost.
And you will never know which is which.
At the time of The Great War, the Wisps joined the Fae in their retreat to the Elven Dimension, while others played tricks on their angelic attackers; sacrificing their lives to ensure others could escape.
Though the Celestial brothers could never be sure, they attempted to kill any Wisp they could find, believing tentatively that they had either fled or died during the war. And yet, their stories still exist today; strange lights over the ocean or deep in the forest that could help or hinder your way home.

Sea Goat
The legendary aquatic animal that was created by the Greek God Pan, the Sea Goats were known as a highly intelligent race of river dwellers that were led by the father of their race, Pricus.
It was rumored that he could manipulate time and distort reality through the power of water, opening gateways to the past and future, and even see the future.
The Celestial brothers had heard the rumors about these Sea Goats from their human followers of the Olympians who had converted to Christianity, and they sought to take this power for themselves and enslave the Sea Goats.
Before Yahweh and his angels could descend on the Sea Goats, Pricus opened a portal to another realm and evacuated his people through before they arrived.
The fate of the Sea Goats is unknown.

Sphynx
A race unto their own, these humanoid cat people are known as the guardians and protectors of vast wealth and treasures, often left to guard the tombs or pyramids of their former masters.
When confronted by a Sphynx, one must act quickly and cleverly as they have little regard for humanity. They will often pose tricky riddles that the individual must solve, lest they be killed and eaten by the Sphynx.
When the Egyptian Gods faced the might of the Celestial brothers, the Sphynx joined them loyally to fight their master's enemies, and they proved quite a challenge to the angels who sought to destroy them.
As well as being ferocious fighters and warriors, the Sphynx were able to dissolve into sand or assume the form of a large statue to elude capture by the angelic army.
Exasperated by their resistance, Yahweh grew enraged. And with the snap of his fingers, entire regions of Egypt were immediately swallowed up and pulled deep into the earth into the Hissing Wastes below.
Millions of humans, supernatural, and Gods died immediately, while others survived long enough to be attacked by the other Primordial beasts that now inhabited the wastes.
It was a massacre, with no escape for the humans and Gods trapped there.
The few Sphynxes that remained tried to protect the survivors but to no avail, eventually their charges were all killed and the Sphynx, in their sorrow, turned to stone forever.

Gorgons
With many origin stories in Greek mythology, the Gorgons were both a species of immortal monsters that inhabited Hell and ruined temples, as well as a curse the Olympian Gods could inflict on those, they saw fit.
The greatest of these legendary creatures is Medusa, the former High Priestess of Athena who had taken a vow of celibacy and served her Goddess loyally for many years.
As a woman of profound beauty, she drew the attention of many men, refusing all so she could continue her devotion to her Goddess.
But not all would take no for an answer.
Poseidon, brother to Zeus and King of the Seas was in a quarrel with Athena at that time and after seeing the High Priestess for himself, decided to get revenge. He first attempted to seduce Medusa, and when she refused like many others before him, he raped her in Athena's temple where she was the first among Athena's disciples.
In her grief, she cried out to her Goddess who came to console her. Athena was stricken at Medusa's state and wanted to help her for her years of loyalty, but Medusa wanted revenge. She had had enough of mankind desiring her and raping her sisters, and she wanted to ensure no man could look upon her again without feeling her wrath.
Doing as Medusa wished, Athena transformed her into a Gorgon and swore that no man or God could look upon her or touch her again, and that as her temple had been defiled, Medusa would remain to guard it against any who sought to harm Athena's followers.
Medusa agreed, and as her stare could not turn females to stone, all women could take shelter in Athena's temple away from the desires of man.
As the first mortal Gorgon, she was not immune to mankind's weapons, however, and eventually she would be killed by the Demigod Perseus.
The temple collapsed into dust, with the Olympian Gods losing their war with the Celestial Gods and becoming imprisoned in Purgatory.
But the legend of the Gorgon lived on, enough so that female Archangels such as Berith, Dagon and Ethereal were sent to capture and imprison them in the Hissing Wastes.

Cyclops
There are many mythological references to the giants with one eye that once walked the earth.
Some believed they were the offspring of Titans and humans gone wrong, while others believed the land was first inhabited by these creatures before the time of man.
Believed to have a lower intellect than humans, the Cyclops were known as very war-like and murderous creatures that would hunt, kill, and eat any who came into their path. Some reports state they helped certain heroes or Gods by protecting sacred treasures and Gods from harm.
Whatever story you believe, they were considered an immediate threat to the angels as they sought to destroy the Olympians and bring the Greco-Romans to heel.
During The Great War, Asmodeus took a special interest in these creatures, offering protection from his angelic brothers in exchange for their loyalty. His ingenuity would lead to the entire race of Cyclops willingly entering Hell and the Hissing Wastes, awaiting their new master's instructions.
How he struck a bargain with them is unknown but after Lucifer’s Rebellion and the fall into Hell, Asmodeus immediately took the Cyclops from the Hissing Wastes and gave them a new home in the Ring of Madness's vast forests where they would become his servants.
All reports of Cyclops inhabiting Earth ended soon after their pact with Asmodeus.

Arachni
Many great legends of giant insects and reptiles have graced this list, but none strike as much terror as the Arachni.
Giant spiders that were first discovered in deep caves within the Earth, The Arachni are terrifying creatures with psychic powers that can enter the minds of humans and cause madness and fear.
They can also lure their prey deep into their underground tunnels, catching them and consuming them just like any spider.
What differentiates them from other arachnids is their need to also feed on psychic energy created from terrified victims, often driving their victims insane before eating them.
During the time of The Great War, the Arachni were only legends told around campfires, their sightings so rare that most believed they didn't exist. But when the Old gods and their human followers sought refuge from the war, many fled into the Earth and came face to face with a terrifying legend given life.
This caught the attention of Yahweh, and he would send many angelic forces deep into the Earth to kill the beasts, but he could never be sure they had killed them all.
The rumors of an ancient Queen Arachni still lingered, and no proof of her death was ever presented.

Hydra
One of the most terrifying creatures to ever walk the Earth, the Hydra is an incredibly powerful beast that is a cousin to the Dragon, with multiple heads that spring forth even after decapitation.
'Cut off one head, two will take its place'.
Where the Hydra comes from is unknown, many suspecting a spontaneous mutation in random dragon offspring, but no hatching has ever been witnessed.
Fortunately for Yahweh and Devil, the only known Hydra in existence had already been killed by Hercules by stabbing it in the heart. But there had always been a rumor that the Hydra was not the last of its kind.
This rumor would prove true centuries after The Great War had ended, and in the new millennium, when a band of Reapers stumbled across one by complete accident while hunting other beasts in Iraq.
The Hydra proved just as powerful as its ancestor and only through the power of a Rift Magi were they able to cast it into The Hissing Wastes.
Where the second Hydra came from is unknown and how it had survived for so long without detection seemed impossible to the Reapers, let alone the very surprised Fallen Archangels in Hell who now had a Hydra to contain.

Banshees
Messengers of death and calamity, the Banshees were a race of unique women born amongst humanity with the rare gift of foresight and premonition.
What sets them apart from other psychics: they only foretell death, and a scream activates their abilities.
Their legend was tragically cut short just before The Great War began, with hundreds of Banshees dying in a single night across the Mediterranean.
The screams of hundreds of women could be heard across the continent as they died, but at the time no one knew what had caused this mass death of all the Banshees.
Then the Great War began.
It was later deduced that all the Banshees had a collective vision of millions of deaths and this overwhelmed and killed them all at the same time.
No Banshee has been seen or heard of since.

Centaur
What was once a race of powerful and noble beings is now a nearly extinct group trapped in the Hissing Wastes for all time.
Half man-half horse creatures, the Centaurs were once a race of warrior tribes that inhabited much of Greece, Rome, and the Mediterranean. Known to be highly skilled warriors, the Centaurs lived alongside humanity, inhabiting the many forests and grass plains throughout the region.
Though there were conflicts from time to time (mostly internal) they did coexist with humans until the Celestials came.
Choosing not to aid the humans and Gods in their war against the Celestial brothers, the Centaurs chose to not involve themselves until it was too late.
Believing that the Celestials would only target the Old Gods and their followers, the leaders amongst the Centaurs never imagined the angels would come for them and seek to imprison them in Hell.
A bloody battle was fought, but the Centaurs had no allies and could not match the angelic army and their power.
Many of their women and children were killed, leaving the enraged males who had survived to be cast down into the Hissing Wastes and hunted by nightmarish creatures for all time.
The fate of the Centaurs is unknown, as there were so few females left at the end of The Great War and the Hissing Wastes is a terrifying place where no one and nothing is safe.
The greatest leader among them, Chiron was rumored to have survived The Great War, but his fate is unknown too.

Basalisk
The Basilisk is an ancient and large serpent Primordial and is the offspring of the Gorgons. How they were able to create these giant serpents is unknown, as is the father of the Basilisk's, but all these giant serpents are highly venomous and able to turn anyone they encounter into stone with a single look, much like their mothers.
Though rare, the Basilisk is nearly impossible to kill as it requires full decapitation. Some have rumored that a mirror can turn the serpent into stone by looking at its reflection, but this has not yet been proven.
A warrior of unknown origin long ago was rumored to have a Basilisk Dagger, carved from the fang of a Basilisk which he snuck in and stole from its nest. This dagger has never been found but the rumor exists to this day.
