What led Newbie to join the Reaper order is a story of tragedy, involving the death of her mother, abandonment by her father, and a creep in a youth shelter. 

As she fled the disaster her life had become, she visited the graveyard where her mother was buried and met a mysterious stranger who would offer a message of Hope. As he departs, though, she is attacked by ghouls and rescued by some nearby Reapers who take pity on her and take her back to their base (Ohio). After testing high in aptitude tests, she was recruited to the order and was initiated as a Foundling at 17. She has been a part of the Reaper Academy training program for three months before becoming assigned to Asaka Zuri as her personal Training Instructor.
